Wadder Completed
I have finally completed the shell I talked about on July 13th. I finished it on July 18th. I have been trying to post the picture on the internet, but the cameras are having a bit of technical difficulty. What I may do is post the picture on my blog with my phone camera, just to give you an idea on how badly this simple shell was made. I am not sure of where I went wrong, but it was horrible(like Denise on the The Cosby show when she made Theo a Gordan Gartrell Shirt:)). Well, I am not going to throw in the towel just yet, more wadders to come and possible a great time to be had by me. I am starting to figure out that nothing is lost in making wadders as this is increasing my ability to do what I like to do and that is to sew:). I know that with more practice I will increase my skills and eventually(two or three years) I will be able to produce something that I can wear. I do not know where fear comes from, but I know that once you become afraid of things( such as messing up good fabric) you never take a chance any more. It over takes your life and you do not experience the good life that God has planned for you. I think I am working through my fears. Keep me straight!!!

That episode of Cosby was too funny! I'm glad that you aren't going to give up. I agree that nothing is lost in making wadders -- that's the one place that you gain knowledge. It helps you learn and grow (she says as she stares at a potential wadder of her own). You are correct about fear as well. Better to take a deep breath and plunge in. I bet you'll have something wearable in no time. You skill set continues to grow as long as you sew. 20 years down the line, you'll still get the occasional wadder. It's what makes sewing a journey. So enjoy the journey and before you know it, you'll be at your destination. Even if that journey involves pinning for a hour (look at it as taping your walls before you paint or cutting your squares before you quilt -- prep work) or, in my case, ripping out stitches because you sewed the facing on wrong!
Sewingmama, I read your post on Carolyn's blog and just wanted to stop and offer a word of encouragement. We all have wadders. We all struggle with fit. Some bloggers may only post their successes while the rest of us post everything. And most importantly, STOP comparing yourself with everyone else. Keep sewing, keep trying. You'll get fewer wadders the more you sew. Carolyn was right about everything, but especially this: Learn as much as you can. You can never learn too much. You didn't say (nor does your blog) where you're located. If you put a general area, someone maybe able to contact you and offer help. Also look for a chapter of the American Sewing Guild near you. Not only will you find like minded individuals, you'll also find help. Remind little miss that you don't tease her about things that are important to her. How we handle failure says as much about us as how we handle successes. Let her see you fail, but also let her see how you handle failure. It will help her in the long run. And remember, it's sewing, it's not rocket science. It will get better, I promise! Drop by and "see" me sometime. Melodye

Thank-you for you response to my comments. Melody I agree that I have to keep trying, sometimes the fear is crippling.:) I am located in Northern Virginia and I am sure there is a Sewing Guild or something of that nature, but I want to get a little better with my skills before I join. I know that I will compare my skills to others in the group and this may have a negative effect on me continuing to progress without worrying about what the next person is doing. I will add you both to my list group as I am sure that I will need the support.
Can I also say that I don't think it will take you 2-3 years to become proficient. You will start to recognize things you should do that will allow the garments you make to fit better! Please keep on with it and again we will all be there rooting you on!
